What if you got the death sentence placed on you.
You know...that dreaded visit to the doctor's office to find out you got terminal cancer...so advanced...they tell you to get your affairs in order....
The shock of this is something hard to relate to until it happens to you.
The fear. The terror. You have only a few weeks left to live.
What would you do?
What would you most want to do in the short time you've got left?
We avoid thinking about such morbid things, don't we? Yet it happens.
Then of course you get the cases where you don't even have the chance of reflecting on this.
You just keel over dead! No warning.
This makes us wonder what is the most important thing in life to not miss.
I'm sure we'd all agree it's meaningful, heartfelt time with loved ones.
That deep engagement and presence with others, life, our selves.
Isn't that what love is really all about? that deeper authentic connection?
So then isn't the purpose of life, the meaning of life basically quite simple?
Love!
To love life. To love others. To love your self.
So easy to say but not so easy to do, to stay with that intention.
We get so caught up with "stuff"...the busyness of the umpteen things we need to do.
But then the disappointing thing is as well is that few people are willing to really meet you there!
To be authentically present, receptive, accepting, connecting in a deeper way.
And so we all go along in a rather shallow way of relating, frustrated, disappointed, all longing for more connection and love, yet not willing to go there to give and receive it.
Insane! ... isn't it?
But wouldn't you agree that simply put the meaning of life is to love it?
And then that death is the whip that gets us to wake up and realize that?
Join in on my show to discuss the meaning and purpose of death with my guest Stephen Garrett who's writing a book on this topic Tuesday, Sept 13.© 2012 Created by CTR Network.
