The Ghosts of Halloween! Who are they and why are they here? Talk to a real ghostbuster!

It's that time of year again...kids going out dressed up as ghosts and goblins trick and treating. Where did this all come from?

Well, it's an ancient pagan tradition where it's held that in this time of transition from summer to winter, from life to death, that the separation between the living and the dead is thinnest. They say "the veil that separates the worlds (the physical and spiritual) are thinnest" at this time. And so the dead ancestors are more easily accessible and around to haunt us if we neglect them, bless us if we acknowledge them. In China they're called hungry ghosts, the neglected dead. All past cultures made a point of remembering and honoring their dead ancestors through rituals, prayers, offerings and on-going connection. To not do so would make them unhappy and restless and they'd seek our attention through mischievous activities or by being angry, upset and haunting, even cursing us.

To honor this time of year I'm having on air a real live ghostbuster and medium! Rick Pederson of S.P.I.R.I.T. who conducts paranormal investigations and communicates with spirits to eliminate hauntings. Join the conversation on Tues Oct. 25 6pm on The Linda Christensen Show and call in to ask about/share a haunting story!
